A Snowy little Village
The weather outside is frightful. Just like the Christmas song. Yesterday I was wading in a beautiful lake and today we are hunkered down in the motorhome because the temp is 37 degrees. The temp dropped more then 40 degrees in less than 24 hours. Since starting this blog we have gotten more then a foot of snow and it still is coming down. Below are a few beautiful snowy pictures.
With all that being said the small town with a population of about 2,700 is a paradise for rafting, camping, hiking, and so many other out door attractions that you can spend days here enjoying the beauty of this area.
The name Buena Vista is Spanish for “good view” and is located in central Colorado. The elevation is 7,965 feet and the Arkansas river runs through this quaint little town. The town is known for its white water rafting, by many it is the capital for rafting. Also due to the mountanious region the hiking here is incredible.
The first hike we went on was to Twin lakes. The lake we hiked around is located at the base of Colorado’s highest peak , Mt Elbert.
This area was also the home to a deluxe resort in 1879. The resort sported a tavern, pool hall, and beautiful views of the lake for the well off to enjoy.
The hike took us to some of the buildings left to explore with many beautiful views of the lake and mountains.
Another area we visited was near LeadVille which is a former silver mining town that lies among the headwaters of the Arkansas river in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, with an elevation of 10.152. (Small side note, I am from a small town in Minnesota named Winona which is along the Mississippi River) and the Arkansas River flows though the southern Rocky Mountains and eventually empties into the Mississippi River. Amazing how everything is connected.
We visited a beautiful lake named Turquoise. It sits deep in the forest near LeadVille. The lake takes its name from the Turquoise mines that produced the semiprecious stone. The lake is a wonderful past time for kayaking, fishing and standup boards. The few pictures I took do not do the lake justice.

I would never have thought I would see this, hopefully I’ll be laughing about the weather in Mn while basking in the sun later this year. It’s certainly has been a strange year ugh
