Merry Christmas to all. Renee and I are in Desert Hot Springs which is located outside of Palm Springs Ca It is located in the dessert surrounded by the mountains where we can see the snow capped peaks from our home.
The RV park is beautiful. We chose Catalina RV and Resort because of all the stuff to do here. It’s also close to Joshua Tree National Park so we can go there to hike without having to drive to0 far. We decided to stay 1 month because of the holidays. We can enjoy the mineral hot springs, pickle ball, and so many other activities. They have two pools and two hot tubs. The mineral hot springs is pumped into the pools and hot tubs. The water is so warm and relaxing. Also pickle ball has become our new, fun sport to do. The exercise is great and a wonderful way to meet new people.
Palm Springs is a beautiful town and is considered to have so many mid century buildings that are masterpieces.
Also the city is surrounded by mountains and we were able to hike into some pretty amazing areas. We were rewarded at the end of some of these hikes with beautiful water falls, mountain sheep sightings, and my favorite, Bob Hopes home. Some of you might not know who Bob Hope was, let’s just say he was a huge star back in the 50’s and 60’s. He was one of my mom’s favorites so I knew of him well. The home was built by a famed architect from that era named John Lautner. The house sits on 6 acres with of course many amenities. They say the house is likened to a large mushroom. When we were searching for the beginning of the trail we ran across this gate with the sign. I thought it was pretty funny.
I love having options of things to do and see. We also went to the Art museum here and spent the afternoon looking at beautiful art work. My favorite was a piece from Picasso. I didn’t know they were showing any of his work, so of course I was pretty excited when I saw his piece on display.

Above are some other pieces I thought were very interesting. The sculpture in the picture on the top left is named Women. I found it to be very very interesting. Renee and I had a conversation of what we thought the sculpture was thinking when he was creating it. As you can see it has no arms and (you can’t see it ) but the back of her head has an appendage pertruting out of it which appears maybe to be another face. It was a good conversation piece to say the least. I also liked the stack of plates. They were fun to look at and of course I thought ” I do art everyday in my kitchen shelves” lol.
Below are some random pictures of the areas near Palm Springs that we hiked.
All the pictures below were taken on land that is protected and owned by the Agua Cliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. The land is rich in history with native wildlife and plants.
It was fascinating to see unusual rock formations and stately palm trees living together in the canyons. Enjoy the photos
