South Dakota

My question of the day, If a fly travels with you from one town or state to another, when it gets out of the motor home is it wondering “where in the heck am I”??? Bahaha

We are slowly moving through S.D. Our last stop before going to Wyoming was Rapid City. As everyone probably knows this area is known for Mount Rushmore, and of course if your an avid biker also Sturgis. Our first day here we did a couple of the less touristy things. We went to the chapel in the hills here in Rapid City. This church is a replica of a church from Norway. The church has beautiful carved wooden shapes all with different meanings. The grounds has a meditation walk through the lower parts of the hills.

Next was on to Art Alley. I loved this place. The alley is 1 block long and the walls, trash bins, railings are covered with beautifully done graffiti. Some with personal meanings and some not.

The next day it was on to Custer State park to do some hiking and we also made a random stop at the carving of Crazy Horse memorial. My own personal opinion (of course). We all need to see more of this and the meaning to be an American AS ONE.

Have a great day everyone, Hug your loved ones today.

Above are a few pics from Crazy Horse and Sylvan Lake, that is where we took our hike. See the tunnel? Thank god we weren’t in the Motor home:)

  1. Hi, Kathy! I’m so envious – what an awesome way to retire!
I wanted to let you know the Borgund stave church you visited is a replica of the church where my family is buried! One of my nieces had her wedding at the replica in SD in honor of the our family history. I have many pics of the original in Norway…visiting it is on MY bucket list!
Will you be stopping at the hot springs in Thermopolis?
I’ll be following your journey with joy! Linda

    1. Hi Linda, first I want to say hello, it’s more then awesome to here from you. That is so cool that you have such a close connection to this church. The pictures do not even show the beauty of this church. No we won’t be stopping at the hot springs, I didn’t know about them until now. Take care

      1. Morning! We would always stop at the hot springs after camping up in Ten Sleeps to warm up and get our ‘kinks’ out…on the way to Windy River to fish some more. Have an amazing day! Linda
